3M Cavilon Products & My Cancer Journey
When I saw that we would be carrying Cavilon™ Barrier Film | Pump Spray my heart smiled. Why would I, as a C6.ca employee, feel warm and happy when seeing that we would be offering a barrier spray commonly used by ostomy and incontinence patients who suffer skin irritation from bodily fluids or harmful skin adhesives? Because it's also used by cancer patients and I was one of them.
At the age of 39 I was excitedly letting my loved ones know that our family would be growing again, as I was pregnant with our second child. I knew my world would change with the new addition but little did I know just how much my world was about to be turned upside down. The scariest day of my life was the day I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Thankfully I had an amazing husband, family, and oncology team to help me through the difficult process of receiving treatment during and after pregnancy. Both my child and I are healthy and very much enjoying life.
During radiation treatments your skin can become badly burned and it can be quite painful. Thankfully my oncology team recommended I use Cavilon™ Barrier Film | Pump Spray to help protect my skin. It is super simple to use. You just spray it on and within seconds it dries and provides your skin with a clear protective barrier to minimize any damage. It kind of looks and feels like the temporary tattoos you put on as a child; very easy and gentle on the skin.
So I was thrilled to see that we are offering our customers the ability to have some comfort during a difficult time. Having that barrier on my skin provided me with both an emotional comfort as I was proactively helping myself during a time when you can feel quite helpless, and also a physical comfort as the side effects of radiation were minimized.
If you, a loved one, or your medical patients need skin protection due to ostomy, incontinence or radiation, I highly recommend 3M's Cavilon products to help protect them and provide some comfort.
