Wings for Life World Run

As you read this, across the globe, someone has experienced a spinal cord injury. This can be an overwhelming new experience as they will remain paralyzed, likely for the rest of their lives.

Physically and mentally, they will face many challenges as they navigate this new path. They will rely on family, friends, and healthcare providers to help with many of the daily tasks that you and I take for granted each day.

Our Co-Founder, Eric Mukendi, and his family faced just this in 2004. Eric was in a car accident that resulted in a C6 spinal cord injury. Eric’s injury affects the spinal cord near the base of the neck (or the Cervical spine #6 (C6 vertebrae)), leaving him immobilized from the waist down.

With the support of his family and endless numbers of medical professionals, Eric has adjusted and adapted to his new life. Through his rehabilitation process, he found it difficult to secure the medical products he needed on a day to day basis to accommodate his new way of life. Service providers were often unreliable, deliveries were delayed, ordering was a hassle, or he just wasn’t able to find what he was looking for.

 Eric decided to change all of this and, along with his family, launched C6.ca as a way to support those who need simple, effective and reliable access to medical grade products. From there the business has grown to address the broader need for wellness essentials.

There are over 500,000 people living with spinal cord injuries in North America alone; more than 43% of those resulting from a motor vehicle crash. Every year many will die from complications related to those injuries, but you can help by funding the research that can restore function and save lives!

Eric, and his story serve as our inspiration as Team C6 is preparing to participate in the Wings for Life World run on Mothers Day. With 100% of funds raised going directly to spinal cord research, Team C6 is proud to support finding a cure for spinal cord injuries.
